Obituary for Toula Sarantos

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and Yiayia Toula Sarantos, on April 1st, 2021 at the age of 81. Loving wife to Bill Sarantos and mother to Alexandra and Helen (Kosta). The best Yiayia to William (Dominique), Alexander (Ann), Damian (Maria), Zack (Andrea), and Peyton. The most joyous “Yiayoula” to her great grandson, Leo William (Dominique and William). Dearest sister to George (Tasia) and Angie (Spyros).

She was kind, loving, determined, joyous, brave, admired and loved by many. She baked, she cooked and baked some more – putting some of the world’s best chefs to shame. The most complicated recipes would turn out the same every time, and all by memory. She cracked jokes, played pranks, laughed and made us laugh.

She loved and was loved. She met the love of her life, Bill Sarantos (Pappou) at 19 years old, without hesitation moved to Canada “from a small village in Greece” and started a life. Planted the roots that sprouted our family tree. With love, patience, hard work and perseverance Bill and Toula conquered the world – many times over. The foundation of their union was so strong that no sorrow or setback was too strong to shake it and in October of 2020 they celebrated 60 years in their loving union.

We were blessed to have an angel, Yiayia, here on earth from April 1st, 1940 to April 1st, 2021. It has been said that on the day we are born we are entrusted with a mission by God. Making the passage on her birthday indicated that she had completed her God-given earthly mission in a full perfect circle, beginning and ending on the same day, April 1st. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren – a legacy of family, unity, faith, love, perseverance, kindness and joy.

The only thing that makes saying goodbye (for now) here on earth a little easier, is that you were welcomed in heaven by a hug from your daughter Helen that you waited years to receive. We love you, miss you already, and we are blessed to know we now have 2 angels watching over us. You were, are, and will forever be entrenched in our hearts and will always remain a constant presence in our lives.
