October 22, 1930 – May 9, 2023
Shirley Faith Amy Koster, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. She was only 92 years old.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Heather and Peter, and her three grandchildren, Jordon, Sara and Scott. She is predeceased by her husband Jack Butterworth, her special daughter Janet and all her sisters and brothers.
Shirley was born on October 22, 1930, and was raised in Toronto along with her two sisters, half-sister and three brothers. She worked in the family business, John Britnell Art Galleries, part-time and then full-time after her husband, Jack Butterworth, passed away at the age of 44. Shirley and her family continued to work at the store until it closed in 1989.
Shirley loved the antique business and was a collector of many things. She treasured them all – whether it was the chipped teacup or her favourite painting of the two children above the sofa. She loved all holidays, especially Christmas, Church on Sundays, garage sales and cashmere sweaters. She was an active participant in Janet’s schools, and later Participation House where Janet lived.
Shirley lived to her last day with amazing health and good spirits and passed away peacefully in her forever home of 62 years, in her bed and surrounded by her treasures.
We are all so proud to call Shirley our mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be forever treasured.
We’ll miss you Momma.
