Obituary for Sergio Romolo Gallone

Sergio Romolo Gallone
November 10, 1929 - March 6, 2023

With family by his side, Sergio Romolo Gallone passed away at Mackenzie Health, Richmond Hill, Ontario. The care and kindness of the staff made a difficult time much more bearable.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Anna; his sons Livio (Larry) and his wife Vita, Robert (Bob) and his wife Jayne, and Aldo and his wife Vittoria; 9 wonderful grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Pre-deceased by his parents Cesare (1960) and Ludovina (1972), his brother Armando (2020) and his wife Maria (2000), and his sister Vicenzina (1937).

Sergio was born in Avezzano, Abruzzo, and grew up there and later in Vallerotonda, Frosinone during the Great Depression, Fascism (Mussolini), and World War II. With limited formal education, Sergio’s mother Ludovina sold a small piece of land to buy him his first camera at the age of 14 years old. Sergio was then known as Sergio Romolo Gallone, the photographer. He met his wife Anna while taking her photograph at a festival in 1954. They married 2 years later April 30, 1956, in Cervaro, Frosinone, Italy. Sergio and Anna emigrated to Canada in 1958 to start their adventure and wonderful life together. Sergio and Anna lived and raised their children in Richmond Hill.

Sergio “Romolo” had an eye and beauty for photography. His passion started in Italy. Sergio and Anna had a photo studio in Cassino, Frosinone. He brought his love and passion for photography to Richmond Hill and opened Roma Photo Studio at 7073 Yonge Street & Woodward Avenue, Willowdale, Ontario. Sergio loved his family, and spending time with his family and friends. He always encouraged his kids and grandkids to pursue education and do their best. He was so proud of all of them. He followed that with “Good luck, whatever you do.” Always thankful for his life, in his own way, before every meal, he would look up at the picture of the Sacred Heart over the kitchen table and say: “Thank you God. Buon appetito.” Sergio and Anna were parishioners at Our Lady Queen of the World for over 60 years.

His visitation will be on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. His funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of the World Church, 10411 Bayview Avenue, Richmond Hill, Ontario.
