Obituary for Roy Edward Horner

Roy Edward Horner
December 24, 1927-March 21, 2023

After a short illness, we are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Roy on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.

Loving husband to Lois for over 71 years, he is now reunited with his loving parents George and Jessie Horner of Toronto and his brothers and sisters Jim, George, Alan, Isobel and Joannie.

He will be forever cherished by his children Susanne (Charles), Karen (Frank), Robert
(Lori) and Russell. He was an adoring grandpa to Jessica (Jason), Megan (Josh),
Melissa (George), Tom, and Kate (Alex). Roy was lucky enough to even be called Great
Grandpa by Olivia, Lucas, Addison, Madison, Carter, Mackenzie, Jane, Violet, Eliott and
Evie.

Roy grew up in Toronto and during the second world war, he completed his basic training in Petawawa with the Canadian Army and assigned to 2nd Field Park Company, Royal Canadian Engineers. In 1960, he and Lois moved with their family to Maple and then to Richmond Hill in 1986. He had a long and successful 44 year career with Moore Business Forms in Toronto starting as a pressman and working his way up to Director of Purchasing.
For many years he served as the Service Club Chairman for the York Central Hospital Foundation and volunteered for many other community organizations including the Maple United Church and the Richmond Hill Horticultural Society. He was a hockey coach and he himself was a very good hockey player and loved to shoot the puck around on Mill Pond. He was also a very accomplished 5-pin bowler and became a member of the 400 club with a 405 score. He also loved to golf and fish. Roy and Lois both loved to travel in the summer months enjoying time by the water – Lake Nipissing, Muskoka, Kawarthas and the inland waterways of Ontario.
Thank you to all the attentive staff at Chartwell Aurora for his long-term care and the doctors and nurses at Southlake who were so very supportive, understanding and kind during his end of life care. The family also wishes to acknowledge the dedication of Karen Richardson to Roy’s care and ongoing family support.
Roy will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge St., Richmond Hill, on Thursday, March 30th, 2023, from 11am-12pm. Service will be held at 12pm followed by a reception. Donations can be made to the Mackenzie Health Foundation or Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
