Obituary for Peter Siskos

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Peter. He passed away on October 10, 2022. Loving husband of Nitsa Siskos (nee Beltsis) and beloved father of Rosalin (Paul), Garry (Ann), Alexander, Elizabeth (George). He was a blessed grandfather of Joshua, Mariah, Emily, Jacob, Zoe, Samantha, Theodore, Nickolas and great grandfather to Noah.
Peter was a kind and affable man who was always full of life, stories, and advice with a strong bond to his faith. As a devoted husband to Nitsa he was immensely grateful to live a full life with her and be blessed by his children and grandchildren. Peter grew up during the struggles of the world through the great depression and WWII and witnessing the ravages of Greece’s civil war. At 16, years old Peter studied business in Thessaloniki continuing in Athens. In 1951, Peter travelled by ship to Canada arriving in Halifax never returning to his home town of Asprogia until 1971 with his wife and four children. Upon arriving in Canada he made his way to his Uncle Paul Tsandilis/Netsis families and Angie’s diner in Kitchener/Waterloo. In the next four months he moved to Toronto and lived with his cousins Jimmy and Johnny Tsandilis. Peter took a job at the Rose Bowl Hotel and learned to be a pastry chef for the next two years. Excelling as a fine baker, he took an evening job at a private German men’s club as a Sous Chef. He soon was promoted to head chef. In 1955, Peter purchased Bendale Restaurant in Scarborough. Shortly after in 1958, he met his beautiful wife to be Nitsa in Guelph at a dance. Peter went on to work as an accomplished chef and manager at several establishments including Queen City Yacht Club, and Knob Hill farms. Peter had the “gift of the gab”, making friends effortlessly and relating to people of all walks of life. His favorite pastimes were attending family gatherings, reading the Bible & Christian books, daily praying & meditation, playing backgammon/Tavli and attending his grandchildren’s events always relishing and taking pride in their accomplishments. Peter will be missed by his family and many friends.
