Peter Hobbs, long time resident of Maple, Ontario, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June
5, 2021, in his 93rd year. Born in Swansea, Wales to David and Ellen (née Keast) Hobbs, Peter
grew up happily with his siblings, Irene, Margaret, Jack, and Betty on Townhill. After high
school, he served two years in the Royal Artillery and could recite his army number all of his
life. Peter married his wife Lorna in 1954 and together they immigrated to Canada from Wales in
1957. They originally settled in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) where their son Stephen was born.
After moving to Toronto, they welcomed daughter Kerry, and ultimately settled in Maple,

Peter enjoyed a long career designing roads with the Ministry of Transportation. He spent many
happy hours tending his garden in Maple. Their home was a hub for gatherings with neighbours
who became lifelong friends. Later in life, Peter and Lorna became active members of Dewi Sant
Welsh United Church. Peter was also an inaugural member of the Toronto Welsh Male Voice
Choir and sang with them for many years. In retirement, Peter and Lorna enjoyed travelling,
taking a number of cruises and sharing Canada’s beauty with family who visited from Wales.
Peter and Lorna were blessed with a lifelong love filled with laughter and dancing.

He will be greatly missed by his son Stephen and his wife Wei, grandsons David and Andrew,
and their mother Janet, his daughter Kerry and her partner Leah. Peter is fondly remembered by
family in Wales, especially his nephew Stewart and his wife Gaynor. The family also appreciates
the care given to Peter at Sunrise of Aurora and Lake Shore Lodge in his final years. A special
thank you to Christine Risi and Joanna Stein for their care and attention. We take solace in
knowing Peter has been reunited with Lorna (who passed away in 2007) and his friends and
family who have gone before him. The family welcomes condolences, memories and photos at There will be private family funeral. In lieu of flowers,
donations to or an organization of your choice are appreciated.

I was saddened to hear of Peter's passing. I first came to Know Peter and Lorna when I joined Dewi Sant Welsh United Church. When I first mention to Peter that I intended to start a Welsh choir in Toronto, he was one of the first to say "I'll join" and became one the founding members of the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir. Peter had a lovely tenor voice and sang in the first tenor section for many years. Unfortunately, due to ill health, Peter had to retire from singing with the choir. He was a true gentleman and a good friend. It was my privilege to know him. He will be sorely missed by all who new him.
My condolences to you Kerry and Stephen in their sad loss.
RIP Peter

Kerry so sorry to learn about your dad's death. I understand how awful the COVID decline can be in an elderly person, but it seems Peter still found pleasure right to the end. You and Leah were fabulous daughter/daughter-in-law. Let's toast Peter soon in the sun on our patio. xx Noreen
