Peter Bruce MacAurther MacKinnon
April 1, 1951 - April 10, 2024

Peter Bruce MacAurther MacKinnon passed away at MacKenzie Health in the early hours of Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the age of 73.

Son of the late Olive and Gordon MacKinnon. Loving husband of, Valerie MacKinnon of 49 years. Father that will be missed by, Connie (Daniel) Guest, Angus (Rylee), Jessica and Archie MacKinnon. Caring G-Mack of, Vanessa and William Guest. Brother of the late Betty-Jean (Pierre) Caron. Survived by his sister Cathy
Handfield.

Long time resident of Richmond Hill, Peter grew up on the corner of Lennox Ave. He attended McConaughey Public School where he met his wife of 49 years, Valerie, in kindergarten. He spent his high school years at Richmond Hill High School. He then went on to do business economics at Western University. While at Western, Peter was part of the Fraternity Phi Delta Theta. The house dog was named Phi and Peter always reminisced about her. Throughout Peter's adult life he had a number of dogs that he thoroughly loved.

During his youth Peter grew a love for motorcycles that lasted his whole life. Peter's main mode of transportation for years, especially while in University, was his motorcycle. Peter loved to tinker on his motorcycles and various on going projects in his garage while listening to the radio. Without fail, the radio would normally be tuned in to the Fan 590 or News Talk 1010.

Nature and gardening was a passion that Peter enjoyed. This likely stemmed from his time spent on his Aunt and Uncle's farm in Port Elgin and helping his father with bee keeping. Peter transformed his property into a lush forest and garden where many different pollinators, birds and wildlife would visit. He especially loved to watch and document the birds that would come to the yard. Nut trees held a special place in Peter's heart and he had many on his property.

Peter spent a number of years volunteering within the community he grew up and lived in. He was honoured in 2012 by the Town of Richmond Hill for his many years of volunteer services. Peter's volunteer efforts mainly included, assisting with Canada Day and the Winter Carnival. He also spent time coaching hockey, ringette and as the convenor for minor baseball.

Peter also spent time serving his community via different jobs that he had. These jobs included working with people who had disabilities through A.R.C Industries and O.D.S.P. He would advocate on behalf of people who had disabilities to help them gain meaningful employment.

Peter also worked at Toronto General Hospital for a number of years. He would cycle from Richmond Hill to Toronto everyday and back. An article was even written about him entitled "A Lad With a Bike". Later in life Peter tried to stay active by joining a men's morning swimming group that he actively participated in.

Peter loved spending time with his family. He encouraged and supported his childrens' interests, passions and work. Peter thoroughly loved the time he could spend with his grandchildren doing different projects and hearing about the different sports they were involved in. As well Peter was always happy to try to encourage his grandchildren to be interested in nature.

Peter will be greatly missed by everyone.
