Obituary

Kiriakos Flentzeris – 1933-2020. Passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Health. Beloved husband for 58 years of Politimi Flentzeris (nee Kakaletris ). He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his daughter Jennie and her husband Tim McGhie and by his son Tom and his wife Julie Flentzeris. He was the loving Papou to Zoe McGhie and Eric McGhie and to Kirk Flentzeris and Alexis Flentzeris. He is survived by his sisters Eleni Vlahakis (nee Flentzeris) and Maria Kalogeras ( nee Flentzeris ). Kirk was always quick with a joke, loved to tell a good story and had a passion for cooking which meant the house was always filled with delicious food and lots of laughter.

If desired, donation to the Mackenzie Health Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

When in Greece one year, he took me to Astros to stay with his fam. I was grateful to him for taking me to the beach after being stuck in the mountain villages. He was also my protector that summer (from Thia Nikki’s ridiculously oily foods) I turned to him and actually said “help” one morning. he had to explain I’m not used to so much olive oil with our breakfast.

He came every week and had coffee before his shifts at Vincent’s spot even though Eastway was a little out of the way. I loved his visits. I loved hearing the stories of him and my dad working at the Royal York and stories of his motorcycle riding in Greece with my godfather.

Last time I chatted with him earlier this month for his birthday he was saying he was dreaming of his youth, his early days in Canada, that my dad has been in his dreams lately. I hope there’s a big welcoming committee for him. I hope he rests well. That there’s a place where he’s having drinks or coffee and koulouria with lots of sugar, with the rest of his peeps.

He will be missed.

My condolences to the whole family. Lots of love and strength sent your way for tomorrow as you honour him and lay him to rest. Xo

Love, Christina Kakaletris

Many of my best and happiest memories are with Theo Kouli. Our trips to the Lake Simcoe, Christmas and Easter meals with the families, and the hours listening to his funny stories. He had a great sense of humor and always created a positive environment for everyone he was with. Thank you Theo for those precious memories, you will be truly missed and never forgotten. God rest his soul.
Love,
Peter Vlahakis

In my much younger years when I worked at my dad's restaurant, we had a small tv up on a shelf to watch when we were quiet. One day Theo came in to visit and the tv was on and there was a commercial playing about a bunch of Vikings yelling "WUNDERBAR!", which was a chocolate bar commercial. Ever since that commercial, every time Theo and I would cross paths, he would yell out and I would yell out "WUNDERBAR!". It always brought a smile and laugh out of him. I know you can hear me Theo, so for the last time "WUNDERBAR". May you REST IN PEACE.

I have one of my favorite memories with my Uncle Kouli that I would love to share. When I was 17-18 years old, I was sleeping over at their home and in the morning during breakfast we had one of the funniest scenarios of all time. Theo Kouli was bugging Tom about his long hair and how he needed to cut it. Tom being hilarious made a comment about Jesus having long hair too. Theo quickly reminded him that scissors where not invented back then. We all laughed so hard that morning. Theo has made me laugh so hard numerous times over the years. I will cherish him in my heart forever. Rest in Peace sweet Uncle.
Love always,
Julie Bitzos
