Obituary for Kira Whitehead

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Kira Lyn Whitehead on April 11, 2024.

Born in Richmond Hill to mother Lynda Hyde-Whitehead and father William James Whitehead, she will be missed by her friends and family who witnessed her brave struggle during a prolonged illness.

Devoted sister to Sean Whitehead, and sister-in-law Caroline Bergeron, Kira’s time spent with her beloved nephew Paden filled her heart with joy.

Kira formed many lifelong friendships stemming from her competitive days with the Progress Yorkettes Baton Club of Richmond Hill in her adolescence. Kira travelled throughout Canada during her twirling days, highlighted by her participation in parades at Walt Disney World and the Orange Bowl.

Passionate about social justice, Kira was an advocate for those living with disabilities. She wanted to help people better navigate the healthcare system and benefit from her own experience over the years. She also expressed diverse interests ranging from politics to animal rights.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Kira's life and legacy on Monday April 29th from 4pm - 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kira's honour to the ICU unit at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital or to any other charity of their choice.
