It is with the heaviest of hearts we share that on Easter Sunday April 4, 2021, after a long and valiant fight, Kelly Hurlburt Taylor passed away peacefully at the age of 44, surrounded by family.

Kelly was born on June 8, 1976, in Toronto, Ontario, and was given the gift of a second chance at life through organ donation in 2001. She lived that life to the fullest, pursuing a teaching career, getting married, travelling, treasuring time at the cottage in Muskoka and raising her precious children.

She is the beloved daughter of Rob and Nancy Hurlburt, devoted sister of Lindsay Hurlburt and Julie Jones (Ryan), cherished wife of Stephen Taylor and incredible loving mother to Jackson, Lilly and Wesley. She is also survived by Gail and Doug Taylor, Denise and Kevin Vanek, and nieces Taylor and Jordyn. She is also loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues.

Kelly was known for her infectious smile, light sense of humour, compassion, strong faith and especially for her optimism and determination. She never gave up. Kelly held deep and tremendous gratitude for her organ donors and for the care provided by all of the dedicated staff at Toronto General Hospital. Having her sister walk the journey alongside her was truly a blessing.

Beautiful ~ Loving ~ Courageous. A true inspiration.

1 Corinthians 13:13. “So now faith, hope and love abide; these three but the greatest of these is love.”

~ Love you more ~

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held for immediate family only. A Celebration of Life will follow in the future when we are able to safely gather and honour Kelly in the fullest capacity.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the Trillium Gift of Life Network or Toronto General Hospital Multi-Organ Transplant Program or The Hospital for Sick Children.

To Jack, Wesley and Lilly
You had the best mother ever! I remember picnics at the cottage park. You three would run, climb, swim and your mom and I would chat. All she ever told me was how wonderful you three were. When I had a sore foot, your mom brought me dinner and drove me to school for the Christmas concert. I think she took care of everyone! And now I know, she’s still watching you from heaven and smiling because you make her happy and so proud.

Steve, Lilly, Jackson, Wesley, Rob, Nancy, Lindsay, Julie, and Ryan:
My deepest condolences to you on the loss of Kelly. She was a precious treasure given to the world for too short a time. Looking back through the pictures I have of our university days together, I still smile at the fun times that we had. I will always treasure the memories of those days. We weren't in touch as much over the last few years, but she was the kind of friend that you could pick up with wherever you left off. I will miss her dearly. Keeping you all in my thoughts.
