Obituary for Kathleen Jennings

On October 16, 2023, at the age of 95, Kathleen passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus. Kathleen was born in Toronto on June 16, 1928, but her family returned to Ireland when she was 3 months old and she grew up in Belfast. Kathleen was a conscientious student and excelled at her studies, and eventually went to secretarial college in Belfast. Kathleen used her secretarial skills in various jobs, and eventually became office manager at Dr. Palmer’s veterinary clinic in Thornhill, where she worked for 19 years. She ended her career as a secretary at Bayview Glen Church.

Kathleen was the beloved wife of Ken for just shy of 74 years and a wonderful mom to Avril Hracs (Frank), Ron, and Carol Patton (Gord). She was the beloved grandma to Brian Hracs (Andrea), Austin Hracs (Natalie), Sarah Roisin (Fabian), and Ashley Crowley (Brendan), and great-grandma to Lucas, Henry, Charlotte, and William. She is also fondly remembered by extended family and friends.

Kathleen met the love of her life, Ken, at a dance in Belfast, Ireland during WWII. After the war, Kathleen left her home in Ireland and travelled to Toronto to marry Ken in 1947. The happy couple eventually settled in Thornhill, where they lived in the same home for 60 years. They were long-time members of Bayview Glen Church, where they were actively involved for many years. Kathleen was an avid gardener, loved reading, doing the daily crossword puzzle, and was passionate about her family. Kathleen was a master at finding a good garage sale deal, loved chocolate, especially truffles, and was very health conscious, eating mostly organic food, which the family affectionately called “orgranic”. Kathleen had a sweet nature and was kind to everyone she met. She was much loved by her family, friends, and caregivers. She loved attending Bible study and gave generously to her church and Christian missions. She lived a life of true service and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

One of Kathleen’s favourite bible verses was Lamentations 3:22-23:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Special thanks to the staff of Roberta Place LTC in Barrie for their extraordinary care of both Kathleen and Ken, and for their support of the family as well.

A private family memorial service will be held to celebrate Kathleen’s life on October 28, 2023.
