Obituary for Ernest John Sambrook

Ernest John Sambrook, of Richmond Hill, Ontario passed away on January 12, 2024. Ernie was born to Ernest and Anne Lorraine McEnery on December 10, 1930, in North York, Ontario.

He started his career at CN Rail at an early age as an apprentice draftsman, working his way up the ladder becoming lead manager and retiring in 1983.

As a young man he played hockey and baseball, and in later years curling, golf, and bowling with his many friends from Club 35. He attributed his great old age to staying active and keeping in shape. Ernie could fix and build anything and delighted in sharing his knowledge and experience with others. He also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and Argos.

Living their best lives, Ernie & Wilhelmina ‘Billie’ travelled extensively, celebrating many of their 55 anniversaries abroad. He was a remarkable family man, and we have many beautiful memories to draw upon as we remember our wonderful dad. Respecting and connecting deeply with others, he encouraged people to get to know themselves and be good with who they are.

Dad, your legacy of love, wisdom and joyful humour lives on in us!

Ernie was predeceased by his beloved wife Wilhelmina ‘Billie’, and is survived by his devoted family, daughters Janice Anne, Carol Jean & husband Tony, Wendy Lynn & husband Robert. Grandsons Michael & wife Angelia, Daniel (predeceased) and William. Great grandchildren John, Noelle, Samuel, and Lucas. Grandpa will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Ernie’s life will take place on Sunday Feb 4, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Cardinal Golf Club, 2740 Davis Drive W., King ON L7B 0G7
