Obituary for Elizabeth "Lib" Bailie (Whaley)

Elizabeth “Lib” Bailie, née Edith Elizabeth Eleanor Whaley

Elizabeth was reunited with her husband Warren and son Brian (Daphne) on January 17. We were so lucky to have her at home in her final days surrounded by the Bailie clan. Elizabeth is survived by her children Lynda (Pat), Robert (Debbie), Samuel “Randy” (Lynda), and Catherine (Guye) and Allen MacGrath. Her 14 grandchildren: Chris, John, Jenny, Samantha, Sara, Angela, James, Claire, Taylor, Leiann, Kyle, Reece, Blair, and Peyton. Elizabeth also had 19 great-grandchildren with #20 due in July and a great-great-grandchild.

Elizabeth was born in Laurel, Ontario in 1931 to John and Edith Whaley. She met her soulmate Warren Bailie at the church’s strawberry picnic as a teenager. Together, Lib and Warren were pioneers as they built their own house by hand and later, a family.

Elizabeth will be remembered as a woman of Christ, a dear friend, a dedicated euchre player, an avid reader, a Scrabble expert, and a kind soul. She lived gently on this earth but made such an impact. She said she could feel the love of her friends and family in her final days “like a warm blanket”. She would like us to remember that this is not goodbye, but “see you later”.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth can be remembered by donating to the Terry Fox Foundation.
